That kind of a day...

You know the kind..
Where you take two tests and don't do super on either of them. Where it's you're day off so you think you'll watch a little TV then start your homework. Where you're pulling into the oil change place and you get a call from your boss asking where you are. Where her schedule doesn't match yours. Where you flood the washer machine, then lock your keys in the laundry room two hours later. Where you just can't figure that assignment out, and after an hour you do, and it was ridiculously easy. And when it comes time to go to bed, you are more than willing to let the day end as soon as possible.

I had that kind of day yesterday.

But while I was waiting for my manager to come back to work to unlock the laundry room, I was trying to hard not to get upset because it was that kind of a day. So I started to think about the good things that happened. And you know what? Counting your blessings really does work...

1. Communications studies yesterday. It is the best class I have ever taken. I absolutely love it.
2. A 15 minute nap on the couch after school.
3. New scrubs to work. New clothes are always good.
4. Julia followed me around in her wheelchair as I cleaned the dining room. Chatting on and on about her day in Spanish, only getting frustrated with me when I said no entiendo when she was talking about that young muchacha.
5. I understood Julia talking for a good ten minutes. School is paying off.
6. Denise telling me I'm beautiful every time I see her. And reciting a poem about meeting me in heaven someday.
7. Starting to know people's names around work. And them knowing mine.
8. The cute lady who comes and visits her Mom everyday. She's there more than I am.
9. The elderly missionary couple coming to check on Ned. Holding hands and asking me a bunch of questions about the facility.
10. Lynn who always asks me questions he knows I don't know. Then telling me "Well you don't know much then huh?" He thinks it's hilarious.
11. Rowland who asked me to marry him Tuesday so I could take care of him and so I wouldn't have to work there anymore. But was trying to convince Denise to marry him yesterday.
12. Julia always uses usted when she's talking to me, like she respects me.
13. Adorable Lu who lit up as soon as I walked in her room to say hi for the day. She has the most beautiful smile.
14. Mom's texts to check on me after a rough day.
15. Scriptures, prayer, sleep.

I have so many more blessings. Even though it was that kind of a day, it was still a really good one. I guess sometimes we need to have that kind to see how great our lives really are.

And I love all your blessings! It sounds like you are having lots of good stories to tell from work. And you get paid for it! That's the best.

I love you Lilly!!

I had that kind of night, but I know what you mean. It is always nice to have a reason to count your blessings. :)

My mom has worked at a nursing home for most of my life, the same one. I used to go help her out a lot and volunteer and visit with the residents. Elderly people are awesome, aren't they? I loved it. I almost majored in gerontology, but decided it was too narrow of a field. :)

Awesome, awesome that you were able to find some joyful things in a crappy day!
