International Women's Day

Happy International Women's Day!

A day to celebrate women and all the wonderful things that come with being a woman. And there are a lot of wonderful things about being a woman. Though sometimes it feels like being a woman is a pain and hard (or is that just me?). I have had a lot of pseudo-moms and examples of being a wonderful woman in my life. I'd like to celebrate them here.

There were periods in my life where I spent more time with these three ladies than my own Mom and family. I  learned so many lessons dancing for them and they shaped a lot of who I am today. They are unique in their strengths and together make a dream team. From Peggy I learned how to be driven and focused. I learned that if you want something, work at it. I can be who I want to be. From Janet I learned how to be compassionate and caring. I learned that no matter the situation you can find some good in it. From Lori I learned to be confident. That if you look your best and feel your best, you'll do the best. I learned how to put my whole heart and soul into something I believe in.

(minus Sandy, Kathy, and Tina.. Plus Neil)

My Aunts and we'll throw in my cousins as well. I have been overly blessed to have a tight knit, close family. As a whole I have learned that family is the most important thing in the world. That no matter what the situation my family will be there to support and love me. From my Aunt Sandy I have learned to be independent and go after your goals. From my Aunt Kathy I have learned to be me and have my own personality. From my Aunt Diane I have learned to face struggles strongly and keep pushing on. From my Aunt Cathy I have learned to set my priorities straight and be tough. From my Aunt Ann I have learned that a smile goes a long way and there's always an excuse for a party. From my Aunt Pam I have learned that laughing is always helpful and we can all be happy. From my Aunt Tina I have learned that service can be very simple and small but have a huge impact. And from all my wonderful cousins I have learned these lessons and more.

(Seriously one of my favorite pictures)

And the greatest of all, my Mom. I have the best Mom in the world. She is what a woman should be, and she is what I aspire to be. My Mom is continually teaching me and pushing me to be better. She has taught me to put others before myself, to serve at every opportunity. She has taught me to take my weaknesses and make them strengths. She has taught me to be domestic.. well she's trying to teach me that. She has taught me to trust in the Lord and always put the gospel first. She has taught me to love my family with all my heart. She has taught me to try to do better each day, and eventually you will be the best.

I could go on and on but this post has already taken a turn for the long and the cheesy. It's a great day to think about the women in my life and the examples they are to me. I hope that one day I can put all of these lessons together and become a great woman. Like the ones who have influenced my life. And also to say thank you for the lessons they have taught me. You're all the best!

Awe . . . I loved that! Thanks, Lilly for taking the time to post such wonderful things about everyone! Love you!

PS - you are a lot like your mom, she's done a good job raising a "mini me". :)

I keep trying to leave a comment and all I manage to do is tear up again. You are a fabulous young lady, have I told you that lately?

Lilly, this is one great post. You're an incredible woman in your own right and I'm so grateful so many have left their stamp on you!
