Living Prophets

Since I finished this class over a week ago... Maybe I should write my conclusion.
I've been busy. You know.

This class was pretty intense. I ended up reading every single talk from both
April and Octobers conferences 3 times each. In the space of 2 days.
Long story.

But I learned a lot and it was nice to re read everything and think about it more.
Application application application.
And I really enjoyed learning all the backgrounds of the Apostles and the First Presidency.
They are such amazing men and have accomplished so much in their lives.
It's really incredible how He has a plan for us from the beginning.

Good times.

American Novels

Whew! We read 18 novels for this class, about one a week.
100 pages between each class period.
50 pages a day.

Which may not seem like a lot to some of you..
But like sewing, I'm also a slow reader. Yeah buddy.

Me and American novels got off on the wrong foot. Mainly due to
Edgar Huntly or the Memoirs of a Sleep Walker
Just don't read it, ever. I'm serious. Most ridiculous book I've ever opened.
And super confusing.

But then we took another step and read things like To Kill a Mockingbird and
Jennie Gerhardt and Pudd'nhead Wilson and A Farewell to Arms.
And then we were back on the right foot.

I read a ton of really good books that I don't think I would have normally read.
I've read Twain, Hemmingway, Faulkner, Lee, and many more.
It's been a really wonderful class and I feel very literate now.
Which is kind of sweet

Sewing

Sewing would have the final at 7am.. Cherry on top.
This probably was my most stressful class, yeah, you heard that right.
Not cause I've taken easy peasy classes.
But because I'm the SLOWEST sewer there ever was.
And I ask a million questions, which really isn't a new thing for me.

So deadlines were killer.
But I made all of them, by some kind of miracle.

Besides the deadlines. I really enjoyed this class.
I made 2 really cute skirts.
1 disaster of an ugly shirt (which was not my fault, the pattern was super unflattering)
and 1 pair of legit pajama pants.

I was a little nervous about this class because every time I've been in the position to sew before, whoever was teaching me ended up doing it for me...
I wonder how that happened.............

But it was really good for me,
I even opened up my sewing machine. 3 months after I got it.
Woo. Good times.

I think I'll have to take a break from sewing for awhile to re-coup from the craziness of it all.
And I'll miss Hayley when I sew (we were the duds of the class together).
Who will laugh with me when it turns out horrible????

Good times in sewing. Good times.

Spanish

Well well well..
Here we are again, Finals week.
Last year I wrote a post about each class as I finished it, and it was really nice to think about the positive of the class. Cause lots of times by the end I hate everything about school.
So.. I'll continue the tradition.
(And it gives it more formality when I throw everything from the class out!)

I took the first two of five this morning. Starting with Spanish.
Now I love me some Spanish. Like a lot. But I sure struggled with this class.
Not with the concepts, seeing as it was a review course of sorts.
And I actually loved my teacher, he was wonderful at explaining things.
I struggled with getting up every morning for this class and sometimes with paying attention.
But. I still loved it. I just love Spanish.

Two favorite parts:
1. Grammar ended before Thanksgiving break and after we read an entire play. La Dama del Alba.
Kind of a twitchy play. But it was a really cool experience and I learned a lot. My reading comprehension improved a lot this semester, so that's always a plus. Now if only my speaking ability could catch up.. I still got that conjugation-mess-up-when-I'm-nervous thing going on. Always yo when I'm nervous...

2. Winning the prize at the Spanish Christmas party for our rendition of "Zumba, Zumbale". Each class chose a Spanish Christmas carol, or villancico, to perform at the party. Then three were chosen for the big prize, a box of European chocolates. We may or may not have won because when we were practicing I threw out some sick dance moves and then everyone did them during the performance. We definitely didn't know our words all the way.. and definitely didn't sound good. So I'm gonna go with may. You're welcome class. Just kidding. It was a blast though.

So that's that with Spanish. I really enjoyed my class. I'm not sure how my Spanish future will play out with the transfer and all that jazz. But I've got a good base and that's wonderful.
